When Was Your Last Eye Test?

Getting your eyes tested or “checked” may be a very daunting task. Especially for those who have never had them tested, or know of those who have gone and gotten their eyes tested, only to return with the dreaded “new glasses”. In fact, you might’ve even heard of some people who have to go back to their optometrist for repeating testing, further testing or been told there could be something wrong.

We all know the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away and that you need to brush and floss your teeth twice a day. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you shouldn’t see the doctor if you eat an apple a day or not see a dentist if you brush and floss twice a day. The same applies for the eyes. Just because you spend all day in front of the computer, or all day in the sun, or better yet love to look at eclipses when they occur, and your eyes feel fine, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get them checked.

Some of what we may ask may sound a bit daunting. Big words like “Glaucoma” or “Macular Degeneration”. Some patients will say “well my mother had it, but she was 90”. So why do we ask this? Well its to detect any issues as soon as we can, and to prevent and preserve our lifestyle. Unfortunately the eyeball and in particular the back of the eye, contains cells which unlike our skin, are unable to heal and repair itself. This means that once it’s gone we can never get it back. This is why it is important to have these regular eye tests. So help us, help you as much as we can.
